Role Details:

Job Title: Communications Coordinator

Location: Remote or hybrid in Ottawa

Position Type: Part-time, three days a week ongoing

Pay: $35/hour

About the role:

The ideal candidate will be a strong writer, editor and thinker who knows their way around digital media, speaks the language of economics and understands the nuance of politics. We are looking for a talented communications strategist who can support the team to maximize the impact of research and stir up informed conversation.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the senior economist and researchers, the communications strategist will showcase our work through social and legacy media, engage with stakeholders and policymakers and edit our public-facing content.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan for broad exposure of Observatory content.
  • Enhance the Observatory profile on social media platforms and with key stakeholders.
  • Create, manage and execute a media relations strategy to enhance understanding of the Observatory’s content.
  • Create and deliver key messaging and communications materials for all platforms.
  • Proofread and edit research and other content.

Qualifications:

  • Several years of experience in communications or marketing.
  • Broad understanding of economic concepts, the political system and the ecosystem of stakeholders, civil society and the engaged public.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience developing visuals and content for social media.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort adapting to shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset.
